Plans to launch an $80bn (£40bn) bail-out fund for troubled debt-laden investment vehicles hit by the global credit crisis look set to be shelved by the three banks behind it.

Citigroup, Bank of America, and JP Morgan Chase are expected to axe the plan to launch the so-called Super SIV – structured investment vehicle – after the trio had difficulties in raising money for the new fund.
